Features California’s Restaurant

August 30th, 2011 8:48 am

California’s Restaurant and In the Mix, an art deco-inspired lounge. The redesigned space features booths and banquettes overlooking the pool, retro leather chairs and a lime green and banana yellow color scheme. In the Mix incorporates fabric-draped cabanas, chaise lounges and a backlit elliptical bar.

Executive Chef Urs Balmer (previously with Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel) and Beres Wall (Hotel del Coronado) designed the new menu, focusing on seasonal, market-driven cuisine. At breakfast, you’ll find options like Banana Stuffed French Toast with seasonal berries and maple syrup or Spinach and Wild Mushroom Frittata with baked tomatoes and mild jalapeno salsa.

At lunch, expect to find options like Sauteed Nantucket Jumbo Sea Scallops ($15) with bloody Mary essence, celery leaf salad and caper olives; Panko Crusted Whitefish ($25), with grilled asparagus, fingerling potatoes, pear tomatoes and caper sage brown butter; and Porcini Mushroom Ravioli ($20) with vodka tomato cream sauce and sliced Portobello mushrooms.

At dinner, California’s breaks out bigger culinary guns, adding a Dijon Crusted Australian Rack of Lamb ($37) with gratin potatoes, haricot verts and mild garlic thyme jus; and Boneless Braised Beef Ribs ($32) with potato gnocchi, crispy pancetta and root vegetables.

Celebration New Years Eve In Las Vegas

August 29th, 2011 9:19 am

Las Vegas is one of the top destinations for tourists to celebrate New Years Eve.

The best and most economic place to celebrate is right on the Las Vegas strip under all of the fireworks. The strip is closed down and only open to pedestrians. Watch as Las Vegas Blvd is transformed in to the world’s largest night club with about a half million dollars worth of fireworks going off over your head. Keep in mind that Vegas will be warmer than New York and you can also drink on the Vegas strip, but not at Time Square.

A spot on the patio at Pure will get you a great view of the fireworks show and all of people crowding the street below. The Pure party starts at 10pm and dress to impress because it’s likely that you’ll be rubbing elbows with some of the hottest celebrities in town. Don’t forget Paris Hilton’s star performance in a champagne glass at the Pussycat Doll Lounge inside of Pure. You never know what celebrity will decide to show up and entertain the crowd.

If you want to dance the night away consider making your reservations at Rain. Located on the ground floor of the Palms newest tower Rain is one of the largest nightclubs in Las Vegas. With over 25,000 square feet of space and extraordinary special effects including (of course) water and fire surrounding the dance floor, you can’t go wrong at Rain at the Desert.
